Today there is still a very huge interest in the culture of the Celtic people. Thousands of years after the golden age of their culture their stories, legends and artwork continue to permeate our world today. This wonderful civilization had a very close connection with the earth and a belief system that was based in nature. She was so beautiful she caught the eye of the High King. He feel in love with her at first sight and tried to do everything he could to impress her. Thus lead the High Queen to become jealous and cast a spell on Etain turning her into a butterfly. She lived the next few years as a butterfly. Then by luck one day she fell into the wine bottle of another queen. This queen drank the wine and the butterfly. Then she gave birth to a baby girl (Etain) who grew up and was finally able to marry the high king.

Of course as stated above the Celtic people lived close to nature and therefore they had a nature based religion and system of beliefs. They believed that the butterfly was a symbol for rebirth and transformation. There was also a belief that if a butterfly was accidentally eaten or swallowed they would impregnate a women and be born as a person.

The placement of a tattoo is always important and where you choose can really make a difference in how the tattoo design is done etc. Women tend to prefer lower back tattoo designs and the butterfly works great in this area because of it’s shape. However there are many other options available and what you choose should be a personal matter for you to decide. Some of the other common places include a foot tattoo, ankle tattoo and hip tattoos.
