If you’re thinking about remodeling your home, you might be interested in knowing about the way that decorating and feng shui can be combined. If you want, you can even introduce some of the principles of feng shui into your home and reap the benefits.
You might be surprised to learn that decorating and feng shui blend not only art, but also a little bit of science. There aren’t any strict rules about how apply feng shui to your life. While you may get a lot of advice from feng shui experts, you’ll have to experiment to find out what works and what doesn’t for you particular situation.
This is the part of decorating and feng shui that might be considered art. Because there aren’t any real correct or incorrect answers, just about everything is subjective. What works for one person may be problematic for another.
Additionally, there are many pieces of advice when it comes to de-cluttering your house and using color to create mood, tension, and energy, but again, there are no hard and fast rules here either. One person may breeze through your home and declare certain items and knickknacks as being cluttered and unnecessary, but to you, these are prized possessions.
When applying the principles of decorating and feng shui, you need to exercise caution and show balance. What someone else sees as a lack of clutter, you might see as being cold and sterile, and vice versa. Again, no hard and fast rules, no right and wrong answers, just some principles that you need to interpret for yourself.
The science part of decorating and feng shui is that there are quite a few hard facts behind what it teaches in regards to entry ways, color, and even clutter. If you’re in an environment that you perceive as cluttered, experiments have shown, you’ll feel anxious or tense. Color has also been scientifically proven to affect mode. Many bold or bright colors work to lighten your mood. Warm colors create a relaxed feeling. Soft colors offer a calming feeling, and bold colors help to heighten energy.
Likewise, the entrance to your home and to each room in the house can do a lot to set the mood of the space. Your entry way is how you make your first impression. Like a first meeting with a person, the first impression of your entry way can set the tone of how you interact with the room.
When applying the principles of decorating and feng shui, its important to think about that first impression you get when you walk up to your home or when you walk into a room. It helps to sometimes stand right in the entryway of your home or of each room and do a quick, honest evaluation. What is your impression of the atmosphere? How do you immediately feel? Does your home and each room therein feel warm and inviting, or are you somewhat put off, so to speak?
By applying these basic principles of decorating and feng shui, you can begin to experience both the art and science of this ancient practice.
